The Riveter is partnering with the
Denver Museum of Nature and Science to celebrate and inspire POC leadership in nature by highlighting local organizations that are redefining what national outdoor engagement is all about! Come meet leaders that are smashing the representation and access within outdoor recreation and conservation. The evening's panel discussion will drive what these organizations and allies are doing and what YOU can do to support the diversification of POC leadership in the outdoors.
Come learn about how you can get involved with, collaborate or support these organizations, and how you can advocate for diversifying outdoors! Also, come check out the PopUps of Museum of Nature & Science's on their Skulls of Colorado Mammals Interactive and Extreme Sports Exhibition on Beyond Human Limits at this event!
Why is this important? We acknowledge the facts that about 78 percent of those who visit federal parks are white, according to the most recent National Parks Service survey. Meanwhile, African Americans, Latinx, Asian American, Pacific Islanders, LGBTQ+ women, and members of the LGBTQ community often report feeling unwelcome or unsafe in outdoor spaces. Moreover, the outdoors industry workforce—which includes everyone from park rangers to retail sales associates—has minimal representation from these groups. We’re here to amplify the voice of local organizations that have been working to diversify the outdoors and start changing the statistics.
